Brave Is The Browser You Didn’t Know You Needed

Matt Agnini • Sep 28, 2021

Brave is one of the newest competitors on the web browser scene.

Brave: Proud to support a faster, safer web photo

It hopes to snatch up your attention with innovative features that make it stand out even against popular competitors like Google Chrome and Firefox. Power, privacy, and protection are the three words we would use to summarize its features.

Brave hopes to provide the answer to concerns of users regarding online privacy.

Privacy and Protection

One of the issues that often concerns users with popular browsers is data gathering. AI programs constantly monitor our online behavior, though this does in fact provide some benefit to us. It results in personalized advertisements and can help the browser direct us with helpful suggestions. As data gathering becomes more common, however, it makes us wonder just how much of our data that these browsers are gathering.

Chrome and Firefox can store account information, credit card information, and browsing history. You could argue that this information has encryption and is not shareable, but the fact that programs are using our data blurs the line between what’s acceptable and what’s not. Brave hopes to answer this issue by keeping your privacy a priority.

Brave will not gather your data to share with any other company. Instead, it will keep the data on your device until you delete it. It also checks for any security breaches or vulnerabilities in the pages you visit. It can even upgrade connections for privacy and block third-party software so that no information can be gathered.

It shows you exactly how many ads it blocks, and its security upgrades every time you open a new tab. Even with this level of privacy, however, you can still sync your information and store it if you wish. Brave assures users that it doesn’t have any way to decrypt your data.

Power

Based on tests and comparisons, Brave Browser loads three to six times faster than other popular browsers. Since it’s stopping online surveillance programs, it only loads essential content. You can seamlessly travel to and from pages and save time, which all adds up. This method has also proven to be less taxing on your computer’s resources. You save up on battery as well as energy costs.

Brave also has IPFS integration, which protects you from any form of censorship while keeping you safe. Brave believes that the internet should be more open, disallowing outside influence. IPFS is a protocol designed for speed and safety when browsing.

Other Features

One of the concerns of switching to a new browser is keeping your old browser settings. It can be hard to re-save all of the bookmarks and transfer all of your information onto a new platform. Luckily, you can transfer your settings and profiles from your old browsers to Brave. It will retain all of your old profiles in case you need to access them in the future.

Brave also rewards you through a system called Brave Rewards. You can view privacy-respecting ads and visit websites that earn you tokens. You can use these tokens to support your favorite content creators. The company also hopes that these tokens will later allow you to purchase gift cards, premiums, and more.

On average, you’ll earn around $5 worth of their tokens (called BAT) a month. They promise that the ads you view will not invade or gather your data.

Brave is also compatible with all extensions used by Chrome and Firefox. It operates on a similar framework. You can switch browsers without having to compromise on quality.

Brave is Free

All of these fantastic features may seem like a service that you need to pay for, but Brave is entirely free. You can use all of its features without ever needing to spend a cent. If you have concerns about online privacy, then you should check out it out.
